Jon's Mysteries, Tome 3 : Jon's Spooky Corpse Conundrum

Description ajoutée par alice-gray 2019-12-22T19:07:15+01:00

Résumé

I’ve investigated some pretty strange cases in my life, but I have to say this is a first. A corpse—a murder victim—has gone missing during the middle of an investigation, and no one has any clue where it went. Psy is called in to clear the investigative team, make sure they’re not an accomplice. It’s a four hour drive outside of Nashville, to a place famous for being haunted, so none of us are particularly eager to go.

And then we arrive on scene and I see who we’re dealing with and I want nothing more than to turn around and go right back to Nashville.

This case is complicated and strange, and absolutely nothing is as it seems at first glance. Even with my eyes, it’s going to take some digging to get to the truth.

We came up on a two-story brick building with a wide porch dominating the front, the railings all in white against the orange-red brick. It looked old. Really old. I wasn’t clear on the history of the property, but it had that vintage older-than-dirt style. It was also occupied. An ERV, two police SUVs with Sevierville Police Department written along the sides, and another brand-new Ford truck were all parked along the front driveway and the yard.

“We’re definitely at the right place,” Jon noted as he pulled into the gravel driveway. He had to squeeze a little into an open spot on the right, mostly on the grass. There wasn’t any room to park, and I had a feeling that when the rest of our coworkers got here, they’d be parking along the street. “And it looks like everyone’s waiting for us on the front porch.”

“Might as well go meet them while we wait on everyone else to catch up.” I hopped out of the Humvee and closed the door with a slam before coming around the hood to walk alongside him.

I was curious—as outlandish as this situation was, Jon’s cases tended to be weird. It was actually within the realm of possibility something like this had happened before. “This has to be a first for you, right?”

He snorted, glancing up at me with a half-smile. “Corpses don’t tend to go missing, babe. Fortunately. Well, I should say they don’t tend to go missing after the medical examiner gets…” He came to an abrupt stop on the grass, his eyes zeroed in on something ahead of him.

I looked where he did, toward the porch and the three men sitting there. One of them slowly rose, and it took only a blink for me to put the pieces together. It was impossible to not see the resemblance. The same thick blond hair, the same lean build, and those eyes—those penetrating, clear blue eyes that seemed to see everything. The man was older, late fifties, but he had to be related to Jon somehow. And judging by how much it startled my lover? It could only be one man.

“Dad,” Jon breathed in astonishment.

Oh shit.

[Lecture VO]
