And I was the monster who was always alone, and I wanted to die so everyone could live. »
I fell in love anyway, and they would all laugh. They could not see her beauty. No one would believe me if I said the moon breathed life into me, that it was here, inside her, where I found myself again. They wouldn’t be able to understand. And no one could ever love her as deeply as I did. No one else was made for it, and those who were like me weren’t brave enough. No ordinary being was created to fall in love with the moon, only that of the aberrant. The strange. They said you couldn’t know the moon, touch it, kiss it, make love to it. You could only watch from the dark trenches of the earth, admire it from afar.
Yet, still, I fell in love with the moon. And she, too, fell in love with me. »
The girls exchanged glances before Fable leaned closer. “They’re cursed.”
“The curse of the Hollow Heathens,” Monday added and took a sip from her straw.
Fable flipped her long brown locks off her shoulder and rested her elbow on the bar. “Julian is a member of the Norse Woods Coven and a Hollow Heathen.”
“Yeah, Milo told me about them, and how they are the last four of the original descendants from that coven.”
“Right,” Fable continued, “Supposedly they wear the masks because if you were to see their faces, all you’d see are your fears staring back at you. Their face sucks you in, and just like that”—she snapped, and I flinched— “your heart stops, scared to death.”
I arched a brow, eyes narrowing. “You can’t be serious … »
“Yes, I would like that.”
“There’s my sweet good girl, only for me though, Blair. You can be mean to everyone else.”
“I don’t know,” I admitted.
“Me neither.”
“Do we have to know?”
She shook her head, scraped her teeth over her bottom lip. “I don’t think so.”
“Okay.” I pressed a kiss to her forehead. “Do you want to stop?”
Another shake of her head. “No. Not at all.”
“Then twist my arm,” I said. “Show me what you want, wife.”
“You’re so beautiful,” West murmured in the dark.
His breath was warm against my mouth, only an inch of space between our lips…
A crash filled the room, my window shattering all over the floor along with a loud thump against the carpet, and West and I jolted apart.
“What the fuck…” West said, his arms tightening protectively around me as we both sat up.
I stared at my broken window, then at the rock sitting in the middle of the floor. »
“I don’t understand what you want with me, Alec. There are plenty of other girls out there.”
He shook his head, reaching out to take my hand where it sat on the table between us, but I pulled away. “None of them are you. You’re not like other girls, Monty.”
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. “I’m exactly like other girls.”
Alec’s gaze locked with mine, a strange edge to his voice. “Not to me. To me, you’re everything. »
Bant lowered his arm. “Because she’s hot as fuck. Shouldn’t that be obvious?”
Davis nodded in agreement, face innocent like a schoolboy looking for praise. “Women like to know they’re more than just a nice ass and a good pair of tits, right, Monty?”
I pressed my lips together to keep from laughing. “You’re right. Women like to feel special. »
Hot Guy’s eyes roamed my face, taking up seconds I didn’t have, which meant I was about to do something that would solidify me as the most bat-shit girl these guys had ever accidentally encountered.
“I’m so sorry in advance for this.”
A question formed in Hot Guy’s eyes, but he didn’t get a chance to ask it because I gripped his face, tugging his mouth to mine. Kissing him was like kissing a stone wall of surprise, and I screwed my eyes shut, heat flooding my cheeks at my own ridiculousness. »
“Do you need a kidney?”
“What? No.” Though an organ transplant sounds preferable right now.
“You’re acting like you need a kidney.”
“I need you to date me,” I blurt out. My palms are sweating, my heart is somewhere in my throat, and my stomach has completely removed itself from the conversation. Luka, for his part, doesn’t so much as flinch. He just calmly twirls his fork around and around, collecting the world’s longest spaghetti noodle.
“Okay.” He pops his fork into his mouth. »
“I want to kiss you,” he says, nice and easy, like the look on his face isn’t one step away from absolute hunger. He ducks his head closer until his nose brushes mine. “Isn’t it magic to kiss someone in the first snow of the year?”
If it isn’t, it should be. Because it feels like magic when I lean up and catch Luka’s bottom lip between mine. »
“I’m fantasizing about painting the world with your blood.”
“Explains the overly indulgent look.” The twisted heathen grinned and the Sin Corridor swiftly ceased pushing me from gluttony to wrath. Before I unleashed myself, he said, casually, “Have I ever told you your anger is like my own personal aphrodisiac? »

“Count your blessings. My liking you would be a dangerous thing.”
I snorted. “Why? Would you ruin me for all other demon princes?”
“Something close. »

for those twenty-six letters have changed my life.
Within those twenty-six letters I found myself,
and now I live my dream.
Next time you say the alphabet,
remember its power.
I do every day. »
