Not Just for Christmas

Description ajoutée par Aikawa 2021-01-16T17:58:46+01:00

Résumé

Ben has Christmas, cats, and mistletoe on his side…. Jason doesn’t stand a chance

For Ben Slater, moving back to Bristol means being closer to his family, living with his best mate, and volunteering at the local animal shelter. But there’s also Jason, his best mate’s eldest brother. Ben’s had a crush on Jason for as long as he can remember, but the eleven-year age gap has always seemed insurmountable.

Jason Armitage works as a vet at his uncle’s practice. He owns a cute cottage on the outskirts of the city, and a loving dog. The one thing missing is someone to share it all with. His brother’s best friend seems a bad choice, but Jason can’t help taking a second look. Ben’s changed a lot since Jason last saw him; both in appearance and attitude. Gone is the shy young boy, replaced with a confident, twenty-four-year-old man.

In the run up to Christmas, the festive period gives Ben the ideal opportunity to show Jason what he has to offer. But concerns for his brother’s feelings hold Jason back. If they have any chance of making this work, Ben must convince Jason that he’s old enough to know what he wants, and Jason needs to believe that a relationship with his brother’s best friend won’t ruin their friendship.

Ben stood close, and Jason was hyperaware of their proximity. After his dream the other morning, everything was starting to feel different where Ben was concerned. He took what he hoped was a subtle step to the side. “I’d better go.”

“Yeah, poor old Daisy’ll be crossing her legs.” Ben led the way out, but stopped in the doorway. He faced Jason, didn’t say a word, just pointed a finger upwards.

Jason looked up and— He’s got to be kidding.

A sprig of fake mistletoe hung on the top of the door frame.

“Liam bought it when he got the tree. There’s one on the bathroom door too. He thinks it’s funny.”

“But only you two live here, so….” Not something Jason wanted to dwell on, not that it was any of his business. He met Ben’s gaze in time to see him shrug.

“We’ll have lots of guests though, especially as it gets nearer Christmas.” He waited expectantly, eyebrow raised.

“What?”

“It’s mistletoe.”

Jason swallowed and instinctively licked his lips. “I know that.”

Ben lowered his voice and whispered. “Then you know the rules.”

The air turned thick with tension, and Jason hesitated, not sure what the right course of action was. A quick peck just for a laugh or—

“Stop overthinking.”

Not giving him the chance to reply, Ben took Jason’s face in both hands, then leaned in and kissed him.

Soft lips, stubble and a hint of aftershave.

Jason was still processing all of that when Ben drew back, his thumbs stroking along Jason’s jaw before he let them drop to his sides.

“There,” Ben said, a small smile on his face, but his eyes were wary, as if not sure of Jason’s reaction. “That wasn’t so bad, was it?” His smile widened when Jason didn’t say anything.

[Lecture VO]

Une romance sympa mais il m'a manqué un petit quelque chose. Il n'y a rien de vraiment exceptionnel.

Mais j'ai adoré l'aspect avec les animaux !
