First impressions aren’t always right. Chase is the only human who works in Hell’s Gate, the one hospital in Boston where demons can go when they need help. When Chase stumbles on a demon killing another demon, he knows no one but him will care. He tries to intervene, but he’s too late, and no matter what he thinks of Thailor, they seem to gravitate toward each other. When Thailor is there for Chase when he’s assaulted, Chase finally gives in. They’re fighting against time to save the city’s demons from someone who’s kidnapping them and harvesting their organs, though, and as the body count rises, so does the danger for Chase. Thailor promises himself he’ll keep Chase safe, but will he be able to?

Aiden has done his best to stay away from Lewis since that day fifteen years before when he foolishly kissed him. Lewis is Aiden’s brother’s best friend, almost another brother, so it hasn’t been easy for Aiden, but it’s for the best. Aiden’s secret half-demon status isn’t something Lewis can accept, and Aiden never wants to see disgust or fear in his eyes. Lewis never understood why Aiden kissed him and ran away when they were teenagers, but he accepted they would never be more than acquaintances years before. That’s why he’s surprised when he opens his door one night and finds Aiden on the other side of it. Something has happened to him, and he ends up spending the night at Lewis’ place, disappearing before Lewis wakes up the next morning. Circumstances keep throwing Aiden and Lewis together, though. Someone is stalking Lewis, and his life is in danger. Can Aiden risk sharing who he really is and keep Lewis safe at the same time? And if he does tell Lewis what he’s hiding, will their new relationship fall apart when they most need it?

Sometimes we have to face our past even if it’s the last thing we want to do. Cumar has been living in the human world for the past eight years, and he has no intention of changing that. He has a job he likes, friends, and he’s in love with Yo’ash, the bouncer of the only club for demons in Chicago. That love might be unrequited, but it’s better than anything he’d have had in Hell, where he grew up. Yo’ash likes his life predictable and boring, and Cumar is anything but that. They share a past, but Cumar has never seemed to recognize Yo’ash, and Yo’ash is glad for it. It’s a part of his life he’d rather not think about, and it’s one of the reasons he keeps Cumar at arm’s length, the other one being that Cumar doesn’t seem to be able to commit to one person. When someone comes after Cumar, exposing who he is and his past and forcing him to go back to Hell, Yo’ash has to make a decision. Will the trouble Cumar is facing be enough for him to step away once and for all, or will they both realize that together they are stronger than apart?

Caelan is going crazy, or at least that’s what it feels like. He doesn’t even like demons. But when more and more of them are found torn apart, he worries and decides to give the League the info so they can do something about it before more people get hurt. The last person Jordan would have suspected of being behind the brutal murders is Aiden’s pretty, delicate-looking brother. When he finds Caelan with yet another body, he surprises himself by taking Caelan home rather than delivering him to the League. He’s even more surprised when the League decides to help. They might not be able to, though, because Caelan is possessed, and the demon inside him is strong. Is it too strong for Caelan to survive? And why does Jordan feel the need to stick by Caelan and make sure he’ll be okay? What will that mean for his job—for his life?

Ilyhas isn’t a prince, not in the human realm—and he likes it that way. He could do without working in the League’s infirmary, but he knows things could be much worse, and that job means he’s close to his brother and the other people he cares for, including Jadon, the man in charge of their branch of the League. Esi is living the dream. He escaped Hell with the man he loves and has a job he enjoys as a nurse. He works with the warriors day in and day out, and he gets to live openly with Ilyhas without fearing they’ll be torn apart and hurt for loving each other. He hadn’t expected to crush on Jadon, but it doesn’t worry him. Jadon has too much work to do to fall for not one, but two guys. Besides, Ilyhas and Esi are together, and he’s not going to come between them after everything they went through. He’s happy as he is, focused on his job, and he tries to forget about them, because he knows those kinds of thoughts are dangerous for his heart. But what if Esi and Ilyhas want Jadon as well? Ilyhas is finally starting to be himself after spending all his life being what his father expected him to be. He’s not sure why that includes falling for Jadon, but when he and Esi talk about it and agree they both want him, he decides he doesn’t care. But when Ilyhas, then Esi, are cursed just as they start learning how to be with each other as a throuple, things start to crumble. Ilyhas doesn’t have much time. Jadon needs to find the person who is hurting the men he loves before he loses them forever.

Old grudges don’t always die. Harrison is fascinated by Salomon, the demon who helped save Ilyhas and Esi’s lives. He isn’t sure why, but it doesn’t matter since he’s never going to see him again—until he does. Sal is still trying to identify the demon who cast the spell that almost killed Jadon’s boyfriends, and he needs Harrison’s help. Sal hates not doing things himself, but he can’t go into a human building to find the demon, not when he’s obviously not human. He’s not sure Harrison will find something, but he does, and much more than Sal expected. His ex is the demon involved, and she’s still angry with him for leaving Hell. When she locks his powers, he knows he has to follow her back to Hell, no matter how little he wants to. He hadn’t counted on Harrison coming with him, though. Harrison knows he should stay home, but there’s no way he’s letting Sal face this without him, even though he’s not going alone. Hell can be deadly for humans, but he’d more focused on getting Sal’s powers back—and on falling in love with him. But not only is Hell a deadly place, so is Shaila, Sal’s ex, and she’s still holding a grudge that can get all of them killed.
