“Yes! This place is awesome.” Pumping my fist into the air, I surveyed the living room of the apartment. I couldn’t believe I got to live here.
Jasper pouted up at me from where he leaned into his boyfriend at the end of the couch. “You know what’s awesome? Caleb’s house. Where I live. Caleb’s huge house that has more than enough room for all of us.”
Caleb snickered. “Jasper, leave it alone. They already said they don’t want to live with us.”
“But why not?” He threw his arms up in the air, exasperated.
Rolling his eyes at Jasper, Kamari walked over and started pulling out the brackets to mount his new TV. “Don’t be dramatic. I already told you, don’t no one wanna third wheel with you and your man.”
Jasper wrinkled his nose. “That’s ridiculous. People are roommates with couples all the time. I think you just don’t want to live with me. Plus, there’s two of you, so you can hang out with each other when Caleb and I have sexy time.” Kamari and I exchanged a look and Caleb groaned, causing Jasper to elbow him. “Hey, you’re supposed to be on my side,” he whined.
Ignoring my brother, I asked Kamari, “You’re sure you don’t mind me moving in?”
He winked at me, which didn’t cause butterflies to flutter in my belly, not even a little bit, and shook his head. “Nope. It’ll be nice to have company.”
“Hey!” Jasper protested.
Milo burst in the front door carrying two boxes. “Are you going to help me get your stuff or what? Wow. This place is nice, Lachy. Hey, Kamari, if I don’t go away to college, can I move in too?”
Kamari chuckled. “Sure, little dude. You’ll have to share a room with your bestie, though.”
“No.” Jasper jumped up and rushed across the room, grabbing the boxes out of Milo’s hands. “You can move in with me. Forget them. You’d have your own room at our house, and you’ve been there before. Come on, our house is gorgeous.”
Milo blinked at Jasper, taking a step back with his hands up in surrender. “Uh, it was a joke.”
“Oh.” Jasper sighed and walked down the hall.
“Where you going?” I called after him.
“To put your stuff in your room in the apartment you’re sharing with Kamari...instead of me,” he mumbled at the end.
Caleb pushed to his feet, chuckling. “Don’t worry about him. He’s just giving you guys a hard time. But you do know you’re welcome, right? Like, I’d love for you guys to move in, too, if you want.”
