The History Boys
When I finished the book, I liked the ending so much that I went back and re-read it two more times.
The characters in this book are funny and very realist, I think. The humour sometimes bordered on the "not okay" line, but overall, I thought the play had a good balance between the comic side of the story and the serious side of the story, which talks about a wide range of issues that are all very important to teenagers.
The ending kills me every time.
Read for my English class. At first it was too... odd for me. Too uncomfortable. Very easy to read, and very funny at times, but it touched on topics that were too close to my heart.
Then I re-read it, over and over, and I found myself liking it more and more. The characters all offer something unique to them, once you get to know them. The end was possibly one of the most moving pieces of writing I've read.
We are currently watching the movie, and though it is very faithful in many ways, I still would rather see it performed on stage, as Bennett intended it to be.
