The first Downworlder to step up to their makeshift office was a werewolf. He had an enormous mustache that reminded Helen of seventies cop movies. He was glowering. “My name is Greg—”
“Your name is Elton John,” Aline said, writing it down.
“No,” said the werewolf. “It’s Greg. Greg Anderson.”
“It’s Elton John,” said Aline, grabbing a stamp. “You’re thirty-six and you’re a chimney sweep who lives in Bel Air.” She stamped the paper in red ink—REGISTERED—and handed it back.

Cristina turned bright red. “All right,” she said. “I’ll say good night then—”
“No,” Kieran said quickly. “I mean both of you. I want both of you to stay with me.”
Afficher en entierWhen she’d first met Aline, she’d thought the other girl was taller than she was, but she’d realized later it was the way Aline held herself, arrow straight. The Consul, her mother, held herself the same way, and with the same pride—not that either of them was arrogant, but the word seemed a shade closer to what Helen imagined than simple confidence. She remembered the first love note Aline had ever written her. The world is changed because you are made of ivory and gold. The curves of your lips rewrite history. Later, she’d found out it was an Oscar Wilde quote, and had said to Aline, smiling, You’ve got a lot of nerve.
Aline had looked back at her steadily. I know. I do.

Though the Scholomance is cold, and Diego is boring, I am still grateful that you found enough value in my life to save it. You are as kind as you are beautiful. My thoughts are with you.

“Why did he send you this?” Emma handed the note back to Cristina, shaking her head. “It’s weird. He’s so weird!”
“I think he just wanted to thank me for the escape plan,” Cristina protested. “That’s all.”
“Faeries don’t like thanking people,” said Emma. “This is a romantic note.”
Cristina blushed. “It’s just the way faeries talk. It doesn’t mean anything.”
“When it comes to faeries,” Emma said darkly, “everything means something.”

Magnus just thought of it as Alexander Gideon Lightwood.”
Afficher en entier"Does that mean leaving me in the Silent City? Because I don't like it here" Kit said. "I'm not good at Silent. And I don't want to talk about the bathroom situation".
"No" Tessa said. She took a deep breath, and Kit realized she was actually nervous. "What I'm saying is that you should come and live with me and Jem and the child we're going to have. After all our wandering, we've decided to settle down and build a home. We want you to--to build it with us. To be part of our family."
