Long ago all humans left Earth. A trisexual race of aliens has been drawn to the planet to take on human form and cultural memories, using various myths of the planet as a basis for their interpretation of what is human. The aliens do not easily fit into a human mold, so that many variations, or mutations, are born. Lo Lobey, a young musician caught in the role of Orpheus, searches for La Friza, his lost Euridice. On his journey, Lo Lobey meets many unusual characters, each born with some kind of psychic power that sets them apart from their contemporaries. Among these characters are two hermaphrodites, Le Dorik and Le Dove, both of whom are erotically involved with the protagonist. Just as the aliens are different from humans (though what they are lacking or have added that makes them different is vague), the mythic plot lines that several of the characters live out have resolutions that are also different from those of the original myths.

Évidemment, depuis le début des années 90, le paysage littéraire a un peu évolué, avec par exemple les bouquins de Greg Egan ou Charles Stross en SF anglophone; évidemment, c'est souvent à cette même SF (et fantasy, et horreur) anglophone que les auteurs se limitent, ignorant par exemple des auteurs comme Ayerdhal, Jean-Louis Le May, Claude Neix, qui auraient tout à fait eu leur place dans cette bibliographie... Mais celle-ci fournit pourtant une bonne base à la recherche sur les "sexualités alternatives" dans la littérature de l'imaginaire, avec énormément de classiques et quelques romans moins bien connus. Après, on peut évidemment aussi regretter le classement uniquement par auteurs et par œuvres, non par thèmes : en établir un, à la manière du "Science-fictionnaire", vaudrait le coup... Par contre, les résumés de chaque roman, centrés sur la façon d'imaginer et d'aborder les sexualités différentes, sont bien construits. Bien qu'il ne soit pas *parfaitement* complet, j'aime ce livre : c'est une ressource, et un symbole. Toute personne intéressée par ces thèmes devrait l'avoir dans sa bibliothèque !
