I stood in the circle, which my aunt said was the biggest it had ever been. With Susannah back in her rightful role as my Aunt's second in command and both me and Brit now fully initiated, it had taken the membership numbers past the desirable thirteen. The discovery of my existence had filled the magical thirteenth number, but the addition of Brittany had made it fourteen. No one minded there being fourteen members in the coven, but nobody wanted fourteen witches in the ceremonial circle... something to do with family history and bad luck. Normally this didn't matter, as there was usually at least one witch that couldn't make the meetings. So generally the numbers evened out, but tonight being Yule and one of the most popular ceremonies, everyone wanted to be involved, and everyone decided it was worth risking the superstition to be part of the fun.
