I like nordic thrillers and authors, so is this story. This is the first book I read by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir and for sure not the last.

The story is well written, full of suspense, the characters are complex, interesting and credible. At the beginning, the way that the author chooses to tell the course of the events can be a bit disturbing, but it's OK when you get it.

I like Nina, I find she is a very human and courageous woman, I feel sad for her about what happened in her life.

The only thing I regret is that there is not a sequel to this book. Spoiler(cliquez pour révéler)Unlike some other readers I don't think Nina is going to die, what not? I don't know, that's just a feeling I have.

Favorite quotes

"Mathematicians still hadn't developed an equation to express this truth: whe you want something to happen, time slows down, when you'd like it to put on the brakes, it speeds up."

"She has dressed herself up for Thröstur. His last hours are to be a celebration; she is not going to weep. Instead she will whisper to him stories about all the good times they had, all the laughter they shared over the years; memories that will always have a place in her heart. Thröstur can take them with him as a parting gift when he leaves, never to return."

Review

I was a little disappointed by this book but it is a GR Debut Author, so I think this author is going to improve in his next books and deserves to have been nominated.

Why was I disappointed? I found the story had good potential but the author didn't enough exploit it. There is a "bright idea" in this book that's Spoiler(cliquez pour révéler)Lydia's birthday photo and the misunderstanding about the person who mattered to Joey.

I have issues with some of the characters, their behavior is not always credible and their personnality upsets me. There is only one I loved, it's Joey but he is only a shadow on the background, I was so sad for him (he made me cry!). But I can't stand Lydia, that's the real issue I had with this story, to like a book I need to like at least one of the MC and with her it was not possible at all (that's why it took me so long to finish this book). When she thinks about her couple with David, she is wrong they aren't a couple (because of her) they are just sex buddies, and I can understand that David's feelings are hurt by Lydia's lack of confidence in him.

I almost forget to tell I loved the cover of the book.

Quote (Even if this one is about television, I find it can apply to many circumstances of the life.)

"Maybe nothing good is on," she said.

"Something good is always on."
