Someone’s using me as leverage against my family. I was your average citizen, innocent of any crime worth going to prison for, and yet here I am.

But this isn’t a regular prison ship.

*Torture.*

Experiments.

They alter me. And when the ship crashes on an alien planet, some of my new abilities come in quite handy—it’s the side effects that aren’t entirely welcome.

Not by me, anyway. The tribe of aliens that have taken me captive?

They don’t seem to mind.

**The Valos of Sonhadra series is the shared vision of nine scifi and fantasy romance authors. Each book is a standalone with a guaranteed Happy Ever After and can be read in any order.

Explicit content, sexual situations, and language warning.

The people of my planet are under a devastating genetic curse. To treat the disease’s effects, we’ve turned to cultivating a rare flower. That’s my occupation: raising and studying this flower. That’s precisely what I’m doing the daycycle that an alien drops into our research plot, approaches our plant… And cuts my flower’s head off, stealing the bloom.

Note: This 37K, standalone story is intended for readers 18+ due to romantic elements. There is no cheating. There is a Happily Ever After, because this is a sci-fi retelling of Beauty and the Beast--you have to have an HEA. (There is, however, no singing cutlery.)

Important Note II: No unicorns were harmed in the making of this story.

My people collected-- (captured )-- all the bi-pedal inhabitants of a small blue planet in a galaxy that was quite a journey from our own star system.

Tender-skinned and intelligent, these new aliens make interesting pets. Fascinating, actually. And when the rest of the universe realizes this, everybody wants to own one.

Therefore, we need these new aliens to breed.

It’s my job to assist the aliens in reproducing… by whatever means I deem necessar.

**This is a 20K Short Story Gothic Horror-ish/Science Fiction Romance. This is a deviation from my other stories, pretty absent of humor. Honestly, it’s a little messed up. This is not where you’ll find your Christmas cheer this year… unless you’re a little twisted too.

Trigger warnings for those who could be triggered by triggerish material. 18+.

Important word of advice: Do NOT read this story while swimming. Not because it has anything at all to do with water--it doesn’t--but because your e-reading device could be damaged. (You’re welcome.)

AROKH

I broke the rules and stole an auction item from her buyers.

Because somehow, they’d managed to abduct a Gryfala princess.

Though… she doesn’t look, or act, or sound quite like I thought one of her kind would.

But I’m merely a Rakhii gladiator; this is the closest I’ve actually ever been to a princess.

I’d be considered lucky indeed if she chose me to guard her.

Instead, I want more.

I need her to claim me.

Because she doesn’t know it, but now I can’t let her go.

ANGIE

Woke up in a freaking auction pen.

With no coffee.

But there were aliens. And they didn’t bid on me out of the goodness of their hearts.

FML.

Then this nice alien showed up in the nick of time, but he keeps referring to me as “Princess” and I’m starting to worry what he’ll do when he finds out that there’s been a little case of mistaken identity, that I’m not royalty - see, I’m not even whatever alien he mistook me for…

I’m just a human.

One OCD neat freak alien.

One human woman.

Both are abducted and held captive in a very unsterile environment.

What more could go wrong?

Simmi: I’ve broken free and I’ve also freed the human who was held captive with me. But I don’t know where we are, and I don’t know where my home is. The local wildlife may be smaller than I am, and maybe they don’t have fangs near as large as mine, but I’m still terrified. My issues with germs -and my uncompromising avoidance of all the things that I’m afraid of coming into contact with- is going to get me killed in this wilderness.

Thankfully, Aurora lets me follow her.

Thankfully, she seems to know the way out of this endless and inhospitable woodland and desert biome.

What happens when a merman cyborg steals a human wife?

When my husband dies, leaving me a widow on the frontier planet Traxia, his best friend--a merman-turned-cyborg--decides to offer me his protection.

All I have to do is marry him.

There are good reasons to accept his offer. If I didn’t think with my heart, I’d be wise to say yes. But this cyborg is shrewd and calculating and so clinical. Plus, my husband’s body is barely cold. I just can’t do it.

When I essentially tell him to get bent, he demonstrates why the local cowboys are afraid of him. I didn’t know he possesses the ability to alter areas of my brain--and with no hesitation, he begins exploiting a way to circumvent my flat-out No to his marriage proposal.

Every eligible female *must* attend the ball by decree of the king.

On account of my tendency to suddenly turn from a woman into a wolf, I'd really prefer if I wasn't being forced into attending.

Anger burns in my throat, making me growl.

Stepmother covers my hand with hers, gently squeezing my fingers.

That's my stepmother. Grace above all; even under fire... or the threat of a noose. She's a better woman than I.

What? You thought the rumors were true? That she's my wicked stepmother, who's kept me as her indentured servant under the stairs?

Oh my friend, you don't know the half of this story.

To tell it, I'd best begin at the beginning.

As a struggling single mom with a babysitter emergency, I’m relieved when Finn Cauley—Irish heartthrob, my boss, and my work-friend-who-I-keep-at-a-distance—takes me by the shoulders and says the four most beautiful words a stressed-out woman can ever hear:

I will fix this.

Finn proceeds to literally drag a free babysitter into our house, for which I’m super grateful, really.

I just have just one teeny, tiny concern.

Our new nanny is a *werewolf.*
