Liam knew a few of the nobility, but no one else. The polite dance of learning peoples names and chatting about their lives and work came naturally though. He was halfway through the meet and greet when the only guest who mattered to him finally showed up. A hand touched the small of Liam's back in silent greeting as Oliver slid into position beside him, smiling at the pair of women Liam was discussing youth outreach with.
Liam looked over at Oliver with a fond smile, not bothering to hide his affection. Oliver wore a bespoke suit with a tie the same shade of red as Liam's crimson uniform, a splash of color against dark charcoal.
"Sorry I'm late", Oliver said.
"You're here. Its fine", Liam said.
Oliver briefly introduced himself to the women and chatted a bit with them before deftly extracting Liam and himself from that particular conversation circle. A server carrying glasses of champagne neatly placed himself within their range to offer them a drink. Liam grabbed two and passed one to Oliver.
"How was the drive in?" Liam asked.
"Bit of traffic but nothing too terrible. My meeting ran late. I'll apologize to the queen after dinner."
"She knows. She's fine with it."
Oliver made a face. "I still dont like disappointing her."
Liam laughed. "None of us do."
Oliver took a sip of his champagne, licking his lips. Liams gaze lingered on his mouth, trying not to think about how lovely Olivers lips would look wrapped around his cock. Itd been two weeks since theyd last seen each other, and really, hed have much preferred to stay in tonight, but family obligations took precedence.
"Put those thoughts away", Oliver murmured, a glint in his eyes that told Liam his lover might not be a telepath but was keen at reading his mind nonetheless.
Liam leaned in to whisper in Olivers ear, "The first thing I'm doing when we get home is shagging you until you scream my name."
Oliver was too good of a spy to react, but the sidelong look he gave Liam was hot and full of promise.
