This was supposed to be a simple job. All I had to do was retrieve several powerful magical objects that were stolen during a high-stakes poker game. But nothing is ever simple whenever I accept a job from my mysterious and alluring client, Mephisto—and this job is no exception. Soon, I’m pulled into a dark world with powerful witches, shapeshifting dragons, vampires, and flame-throwing mages. To complete the job, I must do something I vowed I’d never do again—use my magic. I wouldn’t say my life is a dumpster fire—but it’s far from typical. I’m frenemies with the local werewolves’ Alpha, my clients are shady as hell, and my magic falls firmly in the WTF category. Mephisto, my mysterious and powerful client, is more interested in my magic than the jobs he’s hired me for. And I’m pretty sure my court-ordered therapist thinks I’m an ass. Maybe it’s not a dumpster fire, but it is a hot mess. That said, I’m good at my job. Anytime a curse goes wrong, a magical object is lost, or a rogue supernatural needs apprehending, I’m the person you call. My new assignment is supposed to be simple: Just find a coveted magical object. Instead my client is abducted, I’m pulled into the underbelly of the magical world, and a spell is cast on me that reveals a mark of the raven. Now I’m being hunted by the people I used to hunt. I’ve piqued the interest of the magical elite. And I don’t know who wants me as an ally and who wants me dead. I have to fix this. Because if I don’t, I won’t survive.

A spell revealed I was marked by the raven. Now what? Well, I already know day drinking isn’t the answer. And Mephisto, with his increasing interest in me and my magic, isn’t either. But what is? The secrets behind the mark keep unfolding, revealing that I’m more dangerous than anyone ever suspected and that I’m the only person preventing the demise of several powerful and dangerous magical beings. Some people want me as an ally and others simply want me dead—and I have no idea who’s on my side. My plan to discover who my allies are and stay away from Mephisto goes to hell when my best friend performs an archaic and illegal spell that unleashes a fae with animancer magic. I tend to play fast and loose with a lot of rules. In fact, most of them I simply ignore. But there are some that should never be broken, and the one at the top of that list? Don’t ever put the shifters in danger. My best friend just broke that cardinal rule. Whether friend or foe, I need Mephisto’s help to recapture the fae, and make sure the shifters don’t retaliate. I’ll do anything to save my friend—even make a deal with the devil.

Who would have thought that a mysterious and powerful man who chose to go by the name Mephisto would be more than meets the eye? I did! And yet I still wasn’t prepared for what I discovered about him. He’s a wildcard. But with so many people wanting me dead, I need all the friends I can get. My life is quickly becoming a cornucopia of crap, and I don’t need any more enemies or any more trouble. Yet, somehow, I manage to get both when the most powerful vampire in the city hires me for a job. At first, it seems simple enough. All I have to do is negotiate the acquisition of a weapon that can kill his kind faster than a stake to the heart—without betraying my client or pissing off a vampire, especially the Master of the City. Of course, being the overachiever that I am, I unintentionally betray my client and piss off the Master of the City. Now I have a mere seventy-two hours to fix my mistakes, or the Master will claim my life as payment for my failure. And he’s made it clear there won’t be any renegotiations.

When a god wants you dead, it’s safe to assume life can’t get any worse. Wrong. I’m enemy-number-one to a powerful fae and I’ve ticked off the Master of the vampires one too many times. Life—or rather, death—is coming at me fast. I definitely didn’t expect a demon placing a bounty on me to be added to the what-the-hell-else-could-go-wrong Bingo card. Adding to my problems, the two men in my life are pushing me to make a choice that could not only cost me a friendship but a valued ally. What do I do when: one of the most powerful beings in the world wants me dead, I’m out of my depth in unknown magic, and my allies could become my enemies? I’ll do what I always do when I’m against the ropes or cornered—fight harder. Because there is only one option: Survive.

My rules for survival: Never trust a demon or make a deal with one. But trapped in the demon realm, I have no choice but to break both rules if I want to escape. What’s waiting for me on the other side? A bloodthirsty god who wants to kill me—did I mention it’s my mother? An unforgiving fae who doesn’t care that we’re related and wants me gone, at any cost. And I have a debt to repay to the city’s most notorious vampire, who I gave the finger to—literally—during our last encounter. But I’m sure all is forgiven. Right? My life is hell.

For most of my life, all I wanted was magic. Now I have it. Powerful magic. And I can say with certainty, the cost for it was way too high. My life is in shambles and I've been framed to look as if I betrayed the fae. If I can't fix this, I won't even have to worry about all my other problems.
