The Nevernight Chronicle was a wild ride!

I absolutely loved the way Jay Kristoff writes, and especially his sense of humour. And it might put some people off, but I really enjoy the amount of cussing, it’s almost therapeutic.

His characters are always so badass and the amount of violence and action scenes in these books is mind-blowing. To me, Jay Kristoff is the literary equivalent of Quentin Tarantino and I love that about him.

And honestly, Kristoff spins a plot like no one I have ever read: these books were filled with plot twists and unexpected turns and it makes for the most suspenseful read.

Spoiler(cliquez pour révéler)That being said, I could not give this book a full rating because of one character: Ashlinn. I did not forgive Ashlinn for what she did at the end of book 1, and to be honest, I have trouble seeing how Mia could ever forgive her for it. But even beyond that, I always thought that Ashlinn was not half the women Mia is and she honestly did not deserve her. Most of the time, I felt like Ashlinn was either whining or trying to convince Mia of things by using her own feelings against her, and it sometimes felt like emotional blackmail to me (in the sense that she was mostly like « I love you, so should do this », like her love for Mia justified everything).Truth be told, I loved Tric in the first book, but he wasn’t right for Mia either. I felt like both Ashlinn and Tric were missing something to be perfect love interest for Mia. But at least, Mia found happiness in all the chaos I guess, so if she is happy, I am happy as a reader. And let’s be honest, the romance is not the most important aspect of this series, but it’s something that I pay attention to.

Overall, mind-blowing series, I highly recommend if you are not afraid of blood, your favorite characters dying and a fair amount of F bombs.
