Terra loves the water. She said she doesn't spend enough time in it. She said whenever she gets in a lake or an ocean, it feels like she's returned to earth. I said, That makes no sense because you never left the earth, and she said it's just an expression, it's more like when she's in the water she feels like she's in her most natural environment. I said, Oh, that makes a lot more sens, because we originally evolved from colonies of bacteria in the ocean hundreds of millions of years ago. I told her also our bodies are made mostly of water, so if you think about it, it's like if you fill up a water balloon and put it in a bathtub full of water, then the only thing that keeps the inside water separate from the outside water is the skin of the balloon, and if the skin wasn't there there'd really be no difference. Terra said that's very deep, and I told her you can do it in a sink too, it doesn't have to be as deep as a bathtub.

TERRA : I don't know. I don't know what's going to happen if I meet your mom. I'm worried the universe might explode.

ALEX : I don't think that's possible though.

TERRA : You don't ?

ALEX : Because the universe already explode 13.8 billion years ago. It's still exploding right now, kind of.

Ronnie used to tell me to man up whenever he saw me cry. He'd tell me to stop crying, nobody likes a crybaby, and I try but I can't help it sometimes. Sometimes the clouds inside my head get big and gray and swirly and then I hurricane through my eyes. Except I don't literally hurricane through my eyes -- I don't actually have a weather system in my head.

One time Benji asked me do I feel bad about not having a dad and I asked him, Do you feel bad about not having a dinosaur ? Benji said he's not because he's never had one, and I said I feel the same way about a dad. Benji saif it'd be so cool to have a triceratops though, you could ride around on it and crash through the walls at our school and i a hall monitor tries to write you up for being late you can say, Take it up with my triceratops. I told him it was a great idea.

Peolpe used to ask my hero stuff like that too. They'd say, We have so many problems here on Earth, we have global warning and wars in the Middle East and kids in Africa who don't have food or clean water, so why should we try to go to Mars or communicate with extra-terrestrial intelligence when we ca't even solve all the problems we have on our own planet?

And do you want to know what my hero said to those people? He told them to think about what it would mean if we went to Mars. He said if we can do something that big, something that's never been done before in the history of humanity, then of course we can solve all the problems we have at home, DUH! And I agree.

Maybe you've figured out a way to get rid of it, or maybe instead of sadness you have something else.

Maybe your sadness is your happiness, and you laugh and smile when you're sad and it makes you feel good and it's like how whales sound like they're crying but that's just how they sound all the time, even when they're having fun.

Or maybe you're always sad, and you have three hearts and one lug and sadness is what keeps you alive.

Maybe after you get my Golden iPod you'll came to Earth and by then there won't be humans on our planet anymore, because you looked to late. And all you'll have are these recordings to tell you what happened. I guess that's why it's important that I keep making them - so when you come here, you'll know what it was like.
