V: The Second Generation
Résumé
Description edit see section history
TWENTY YEARS AGO THE EARTH WAS TAKEN. NOW IT'S TIME TO TAKE IT BACK.
Hundreds of millions thrilled to Kenneth Johnson's and Warner Bros. Television's hugely popular production, the critically acclaimed miniseries V, an action-filled drama of an oppressive alien occupation, a landmark TV event that was also a bestselling novel. Now the epic story continues twenty years after the original arrival of the alien Visitors in this stirring, provocative new novel.
Readers will be swept up in the Brave New World that the Visitors have created. Hiding their reptilian nature beneath false human skin, the Visitors have brought many benefits to humankind and seduced the majority into believing The Big Lie: that they will be the saviors of Earth. But in truth they are draining our oceans and subjugating our people. A small but determined human Resistance has fought them for more than twenty years, but without more aid, their cause is hopeless. Then, at their darkest hour, the Resistance discovers startling new Allies who have come to help ... or have they?
For years there have been rumors, conjecture, and even some evidence (see V: The Rebirth) of a V revival. Kenneth Johnson then himself announced his intention to return to the V-verse with what he dubbed, V: The Second Generation. He envisioned it as a four hour miniseries that would serve as a sequel to the original V miniseries. Knowing his disdain for the Final Battle and weekly series, it came as no surprise that he was planning on ignoring the events of those completely. After some negotiations, he changed it to a three hour movie. After further negotiations, NBC wanted him to make a remake of the original miniseries first and then they could discuss the sequel. Kenneth half-heartedly went that route at first but eventually, they pulled out from negotiations from NBC altogether. Kenneth decided to turn his attention to novelizing the Second Generation while holding discussions on how to proceed. The novel was announced and delayed several times before finally being released on February 5th, 2008. According to his site and emails, he is still attempting to get V back in front of the camera, but it seems his focus is to get the Original miniseries made as a movie first and then the Second Generation would be a sequel down the road.
Millions thrilled to Kenneth Johnson's hugely popular mini-series "V," an action filled drama of alien invasion, a TV event that was also a number one bestselling novel. Now, in a new novel based on the sequel miniseries currently being developed for TV, the tension between The Visitors and Earth's human inhabitants has reached a boiling point. The reptilian Visitors, who cleverly portray themselves as Earth's protectors, are anything but. Our oceans are being drained in order to fuel the aliens' motherships, and our scientists are treated like wanted criminals. And they have pods of preserved humans destined for even more sinister purposes. But hope is not lost. A small, yet resourceful Resistance risks everything to undermine the Visitors' stranglehold on Earth's people. Despite their heroic efforts, without more help they will be crushed by the Visitors and their human militia. Just when Earth's doom seems inevitable, agents of an alien civilization from another planet arrive in answer to humanity's desperate call for help. But can these other aliens be trusted? Or might we defeat one alien overlord, only to be delivered into the hands of another, equally as oppressive? Time is running out for the Resistance, for when the Visitors' Leader arrives, the aliens will complete their mission on Earth, with devastating consequences for all life on the planet.
