I whistle as I clean bridles, enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. The birds are whistling with me, and I’ve got an affectionate cat rubbing up against my leg. What more can a man ask for?
A good job I love? Got it.
Great place to live? Yep, got that too.
Hot, sweaty, athletic sex with a stranger? Had some last night.
See? My life’s perfect. How many people get to sit in a courtyard on a gorgeous spring day, cleaning tack after showing off their blacksmithing skills to a bunch of tourists… and get paid to do it?
I reach out for another bridle, feel the pull of overtaxed muscles, and grin. My bedmate last night was certainly energetic. I should have gotten his name and number, but he said he was only in town for one night.
There’s a bang from inside the stables behind me, but I ignore it. Daniel put the horses out in the pasture to graze this morning, so they can’t get startled by it, and I’m not going to feed attention-seeking behavior. If Johnny wants to waste his energy throwing a shit fit, he can go right ahead.
A laugh carries through the warm morning air, and I glance up toward the house. Kieran, his bright hair aflame in the sun, is walking down toward me with some guy. A tourist? Usually the drop-in crowd comes on the weekends, but occasionally we get someone during the week. Or… wait, Kier was interviewing for Adele’s replacement this morning. Maybe he decided to hire the guy and this is him. That’d be great—he and Skye have been run ragged lately.
They come a bit closer, and I squint. The guy seems kinda familiar? Could he be a local? But I thought Kieran said he’d exhausted the possib—
Oh no.
I squeeze my eyes closed, just in case they’re playing tricks on me, then open them to look again. It was a mistake, because now the sun seems blindingly bright and I have purple blobs dancing before my eyes.
“…can meet Ewan first,” I hear Kieran say, and I blink rapidly to clear my vision. “Ewan!”
I get to my feet as they step into the three-sided courtyard, and yep, the guy with Kieran is none other than the man I fucked into oblivion last night, three… no, was it four times? Are we counting the time I ate him out and then made him come with my fingers? I didn’t get off that time, but it’s still sex even if you don’t come.

Je suis assez déçue par ce livre. La romance est quasi inexistante et l'intrigue paranormale également.
L'histoire commence avec Josh et Ewan qui se rencontrent dans un bar et couche ensemble pour une nuit (pas ma tasse de thé quand l'histoire commence comme ça...). Ensuite Josh se rend compte qu'il va travailler avec Ewan... Et décide qu'il ne veut pas de relation avec lui, pour une quelconque raison (pas trop compris ses raisons honnêtement, il semble dire que c'est parce qu'ils travaillent ensemble mais ça reste très vague et ressemble plus à une excuse qu'autre chose).
Ensuite vers la fin du livre, soudainement, Josh accepte un rencard avec Ewan et on n'a pas d'explications sur pourquoi il a changé d'avis sur ses "raisons" de ne pas être avec Ewan.
On nous balance également rapidement une intrigue paranormale à ce moment-là et tout est réglé bien trop rapidement.
En conclusion, la romance n'est pas développée et est très en fond de l'histoire mais ce n'est pas pour laisser place à une intrigue paranormale, qui est très faible. Vraiment dommage car je trouve que l'univers et le concept de l'hôtel est une très bonne idée.
Je suis aussi déçue d'apprendre que le tome suivant est sur Kieran car je voulais avoir l'histoire de Skye plutôt.

When you can talk to ghosts, things are bound to get spirited.
The ghosts have been there since before I can remember. When I was a kid, they doted on me, but as I got older, they got more demanding. I’ve spent my whole life seeing and talking to dead people and trying to pretend I’m not, because the living just don’t understand. Nobody wants to be around the freak who claims to see ghosts.
Until I go to Mannix Estate.
Once a private country home, then a posh hotel, it was closed after a suspicious incident but is now an immersive historic experience. It’s also haunted AF, and everyone knows it. Finally, I’ve found a place to work and live where I can be useful. Where I’m actually wanted.
There are only two problems: I spent a hot, sweaty, satisfying night with Ewan the blacksmith before I knew we’d have to work together. Everyone knows sex with colleagues is a bad idea, right? Even if he’s the world’s most ripped cinnamon roll.
Plus, the ghosts are keeping secrets. There’s something going on that’s not normal, even for a haunted estate. And I suspect that when the truth comes out, I’m the one who’ll have to deal with it… and it won’t be good.
