A Hometown Holiday

Description ajoutée par Aikawa 2021-02-12T20:00:50+01:00

Résumé

Josh has stepped back into the closet for a guy, but how long can he stay there?

Life in a college town suits Josh Cassidy. He has good friends and neighbors, and the bookshop café he runs with his family is thriving. As the winter holidays begin, Josh finds himself enamored with police officer Alex Curiel, an old friend who has recently moved back to town. The trouble is, Alex isn’t ready for the world to know he’s attracted to men.

At Alex’s request, Josh agrees to closet their relationship, though the secrecy quickly becomes a burden. When Josh realizes he is falling for Alex, his ability to hide his feelings from the world begins to slip, and he’s forced to decide if love is enough to keep him hiding behind closed doors.

A Hometown Holiday is a 21.5K sex-buddies-to-lovers MM novella. It features a bookshop owner with a fondness for jazz music, a closeted cop who could be Mr. Right if only he’d give himself a chance, and the warm, fuzzy HEA that both guys deserve.

“Helen, where did you park?” he asked. “I’ll help you get these bags to your car.”

Helen smiled. “Thank you, that’s very thoughtful. Alex can carry them, though. The poor guy gets one day off and here Gemma and I have had him loaded him up like a pack mule. He’s never once complained, either, bless him.”

Josh blinked, struggling to understand Helen’s words, and he followed her line of sight to the windows at the front of the shop. He recognized Alex at once, tall and broad-shouldered on the sidewalk outside in his down jacket and loaded down with bags. A petite woman wearing a shearling coat stood at his side, her dark hair curling over her shoulders as she smiled up at Alex. Josh’s stomach dropped.

“I’ve been trying to set the two of them up for weeks.” Helen’s voice broke through the buzz growing in Josh’s ears and he somehow met her gaze. “Gemma and I work together. She’s at our place a few times a week to help me with reporting, and if Alex is around, they usually spend some time talking. I swear he’s sweet on her, but Alex has been dragging his feet about calling her to set something up. I thought I’d give them a little push today, though, and see how things turned out.”

Josh nodded slowly and his eyes drifted back to the figures outside. He recognized tension in Alex’s posture and the way his hands were jammed in his pockets, but he was smiling at the woman called Gemma. In a flash, Josh knew Alex had chosen to stay away rather than face Josh at Gemma’s side.

“They kept going while I came in here, and I told them to come on by when I’d finished so we could grab a few treats.” Helen smiled at Josh when he glanced her way again. “Alex has quite a sweet tooth, though you’d probably never guess that. He mentioned he’d run into you at Jamison’s Pub, and I’m sure he’d like to say hi again.”

Pain shot through Josh and he knew he could not be in the room when Alex and Gemma walked inside. The thought of Alex looking at Josh as he would a stranger, or worse, that Alex wouldn’t look at Josh at all ... no. Josh couldn’t bear it.

[Lecture VO]

Pas vraiment convaincue par ce livre. J'ai eu l'impression de débarquer en plein milieu d'une histoire. Il y a un grand manque de développement. Et je n'ai vraiment pas accroché avec Alex, contrairement à Josh.
