Blood And Magick, Tome 2: Demon's Kiss

Description ajoutée par feedesneige 2017-06-07T01:01:22+02:00

Résumé

Dark rituals. Power hungry demon-bloods. A witch barely holding it together.

Someone is killing the Hollows in New Orleans. After freeing the city from the yoke of Remy, the immortal, Madison and her coven start building a new social system based on freedom and democracy. But years of relying on the protection offered by a dictator has made the witches soft. Now their sacred spaces are under attack, and dangerous entities are slipping into the city.

As Madison investigates further, she finds a group of imps responsible for the draining and destruction of a Hollow, and foils their plans to continue pillaging. But this is only the beginning. When a group of demon-bloods spill into town, hell-bent on taking what they want and answering to no-one, the witches of New Orleans have to scramble just to react. Throw a tall, abrasive, new distraction hiding a dark secret into the mix, and this witch has her hands full.

Every decision Madison makes could lead to catastrophe, and with so many lives hanging in the balance, she can’t afford to make any mistakes. But without Jean Luc and Eliza by her side, she just might.

CHAPTER ONE

I wanted a jaunt in the Louisiana wetland like I wanted a hole in the head, but there were imps out here, and the little bastards had all but destroyed a Hollow. They needed to get caught.

Every breath I took stank of rot and decay, my clothes were starting to get sticky from the heat despite it being close to midnight, and judging by the cold, clammy wetness surrounding my right foot, I think it was safe to say that my boots had developed unwanted holes. I wouldn’t be keeping these. But I kept my head down, trying to keep on these little creatures’ heels. You could blink and miss them.

And we had.

I slowed to a jog, allowing for a chance to catch my breath. “It’s too dark,” I said, “I can’t see them.”

“Lumière,” Nicole shouted from behind me, and hundreds of motes of silver light exploded out in front of me like a shower of tiny fireworks, illuminating the swampland around us.

A chorus of hisses erupted as fresh light rained down on the backs of several humanoid creatures, each barely taller than a three-year-old, thin, long-limbed, and as pink as freshly boiled shrimp.

“There,” Emmett said, “Five of them.”

Dean started after them first, I followed, then Emmett and Nicole began to move too, huffing and panting.

“Can you make the light follow us?” I asked between breaths.

“No,” Nicole said.

“Dammit.”

“I can see them,” Dean said, still ahead of us. “Just stay with me.”

I kept running. I wouldn’t be able to keep this pace for long, but I counted my blessings. If it hadn’t been for my new daily gym routine, I would have fallen behind the rest of the group long ago.

I leapt over a fallen log and hit the slippery ground hard. We were running parallel to a body of water now, and I worried the imps would take us inside, but they didn’t seem to be going that way.
