“Well, I heard that you got a visit down in the ER today from your hubby,” Priya practically sings.
Parker pauses midbite. “Wait, what?”
“It’s not a big deal,” I say flippantly.
“Not what I heard,” Priya tuts. “Jessica from Radiology told me that you guys were making out in the hallway.”
“Seriously,” I huff. “Who the fuck is Jessica from Radiology, and why is she always reporting on me?”
“It’s not just her,” Priya tells me. “They were buzzing about it all the way up in Anesthesiology. My tech mentioned it after an epidural.”
“It’s barely been an hour,” I grumble. “People need better things to do than gossip about Noah and me.”
“Okay,” Parker chimes in. “But why exactly didn’t you start with this when you sat down? Making out with Noah in the hall is pretty noteworthy.”
“We didn’t make out,” I say with a shake of my head. “He just kissed me.”
“And you don’t think that’s weird?”
Priya cocks her head. “Why would that be weird? They’re mated, right?”
“Right,” I say through slightly gritted teeth, narrowing my eyes at Parker. “There’s nothing weird about that.”
Parker matches my expression as he stabs at his salad and shoves a bite into his mouth, chewing thoughtfully as he shrugs. “I just meant he didn’t ever kiss you in the hallway before.”

Ce livre est typiquement la romance qui donne le sourire. Très facile à lire et sympathique de voir les univers se mélanger dans cette histoire où on parle de "shifters" (métamorphes) qui vivent leur quotidien dans un monde réel.
J'ai, dans un premier temps, pensé que de parler d'oméga, alpha allait me déranger car bon... C'est un peu too much des fois. Mais, finalement c'était vraiment un plaisir!
Mack est une jeune femme qui travail à l'hôpital Denver General depuis 1 an, adoré de tout le monde et peut-être un peu trop par sa grand-mère qui l'embarque dans des blind dates tous les quatre matins, dont elle a horreur.
Noah, lui, est un cardiologue reconnu avec un peu plus de bouteille, qui a toujours l'air de mauvaise humeur avec un caractère de cochon. Au point d'en faire pleurer les infirmières.
Bref, tout porte à croire qu'ils n'ont rien en commun. Ils se sont d'ailleurs à peine adressé la parole en 1 an, jusqu'à ce qu'un léger problème voit le jour.
D'un commun accord, ils vont s'entraider en faisant croire qu'ils sont ensembles. Deux avantages : Mack n'aura plus à subir les rendez-vous désastreux avec la gent masculine à cause de sa grand-mère et Noah, de part son statut d'Alpha, ne sera plus questionné au sein de l'hôpital sur son poste à responsabilité. Gagnant-gagnant. Facile.
En tout cas, jusqu'à ce que les sentiments entrent en jeu...

Reading thoughts : Noah gives me such Adam from Love Hypothesis vibe and I am here for it.
I also really love the shifter aspect and how it adds to the fake dating trope. It creates a really good sexual tension that actually makes sense.
I didn’t expect them to be fake mate with benefits. I thought the romance might be a little bit more slow burn. But I think their tension stayed as interesting despite them being intimate.
I also really loved how Noah was so caring and always made sure that Mackenzie was ok despite the fact that he was an alpha. I mean all the alphas I read about are more animalistic and less in control of themselves. And I usually enjoy that. But I adored how sweet Noah could be towards Mackenzie.
The third act break up was to be seen from a mile away but it felt relatively short because in two or three chapters Mackenzie figures out why Noah really broke up with her and I loved that this allowed for a reconciliation and an intimate scene before the epilogue which I found refreshing in a rom-com.
Overall a pretty great book, I really enjoyed it !

Only a year out of residency, her grandmother’s obsession with Mackenzie finding the perfect mate to settle down with threatens to drive Mackenzie barking mad. Out of options, it feels like a small thing to tell her grandmother that she’s met someone. That is, until she blurts out the name of the first man she sees and the last man she would ever date: Noah Taylor, the big bad wolf of Denver General.
Noah Taylor, interventional cardiologist and all around grump, has spent his entire life hiding what he is. With outdated stigmas surrounding unmated alphas that have people wondering if they still howl at the moon, Noah has been careful to keep his designation under wraps. It’s worked for years, until an anonymous tip has everything coming to light. Noah is left with two options: come clean to the board and risk his career—or find himself a mate. The chatty, overly friendly ER doctor asking him to be her fake boyfriend on the same day he’s called to meet the board has to be kismet, right?
Mackenzie will keep her grandmother off her back, and Noah will get a chance to prove he can continue to work without a real mate—a mutually beneficial business transaction, they both rationalize. But when the fake-mate act turns into a very real friends-with-benefits arrangement, lines start to blur, and they quickly realize love is a whole different kind of animal.
